MatchReel turns phone footage of amateur football into finished, TV-style highlight reels: tap goals on your Apple Watch, the app does the rest.
MatchReel is an iPhone and Apple Watch app for grassroots football. Film a match, tag goals live on the Watch or the iPhone, and after the final whistle you get automatically cut highlights with a score bar, scorer graphics, an intro and a full-time card. Everything runs on the device, with no account and no cloud.
MatchReel brings broadcast graphics to grassroots football. The match is filmed with an iPhone or any camera, usually on a tripod at the touchline. During play you tap goals, cards and key moments on your Apple Watch and pick the scorer straight from your squad. Tagging also works on the iPhone.
After the final whistle MatchReel matches every tagged moment to the footage and cuts the clips. The result is a finished highlight reel with a score bar that changes the instant the ball goes in, scorer graphics, an intro with the weather at the venue and a full-time card with the goal list. Clips can be fine-tuned in the editor with slow motion, animated cropping and multiple cameras, and shared in portrait for WhatsApp, Instagram and TikTok.
The Watch also records the match as a workout with heart rate, route and sprints. All data stays on the device: no account, no cloud, no tracking.

The story
Michael Fischer plays Sunday football every week in Fürth, Germany. For a long time nobody filmed those games, and the best goals only lived on in memory. Eventually he set up a tripod with his iPhone at the touchline himself. Filming was easy, the work afterwards was not: 90 minutes of raw footage, with every goal to be found and cut by hand.
So he spent his evenings building a cutting tool for his own Mac first, and then an app that solves exactly that: goals are tagged on the Apple Watch the moment they happen, without anyone having to handle a phone at the touchline. After the match MatchReel finds those moments in the footage by itself and cuts clips with the kind of graphics you know from TV.
Since its launch in August 2026 MatchReel has grown a lot: multiple cameras per match, an editor with slow motion and animated cropping, portrait formats for social media, cards and key moments for referee reviews, heatmaps from the Watch route and sharing whole matches with the team. It is a one-person project, shaped by feedback from players, coaches and parents at the pitch.
